The purpose of Unleashing Potential remains the same as it was when the organization started as part of the settlement house movement in 1913 on St. Louis’ near south-side:

Maria knew the basics of her fantasy story. But she kept getting stuck. Luckily, her site manager also liked to write and knew a thing or two about the creative writing process.
Faith’s dream is to be a famous artist. She is very talented at drawing, and particularly enjoys painting.
In Unleashing Potential’s summer enrichment program at Church of the Master, the leaders have helped her find her voice in that. This summer, the focus at Church of the Master has tended toward STEAM – science, technology, engineering, cultural arts and math. Faith has enjoyed those activities, and she’s especially loved the hands-on activities.
“The teachers really support what I do,” she said.
St. Louis, MO (December 10, 2024) – Unleashing Potential (UP) announced it received $15,000 in support from Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer in the U.S. This grant will build a better future for nearly 700 under-resourced school-aged students from 6-14 years old through high-quality STEAM (science, technology, engineering, cultural arts, and math) out-of-school time (OST) afterschool and summer programs. Students served by UP primarily live in communities throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area that are experiencing financial hardships.
St. Louis, MO (June 13, 2024) – Unleashing Potential (UP) announced it received 372 books in support of literacy in early childhood education (ECE) from Books for STL Kids. This contribution will help set 31 children (ages 6 weeks – 5 years old) from economically disadvantaged communities in St. Louis City on a positive trajectory.
